SPADE ANCHORS

Established in 2002 by Julia Buesnel, Blue Water Supplies launched the then unknown SPADE High Performance Anchor onto the UK market.  SPADE quickly gained a reputation for reliability and holding power and it wasn’t long before it had been adopted by major UK sea rescue services and even Princess Anne chose a SPADE for her Rustler 44 for cruising the west coats of Scotland.  At the 2008 London Boat Show Blue Water Supplies teamed together with Jersey and SPADE to sponsor the Anchorwatch feature, a boat on rails demonstrating anchoring techniques. Alain Poiraud the designer of the SPADE became a close friend of Julia and they regularly discussed anchor design and development.  Sadly he did not did not live to see his anchor’s ultimate success.  SPADE anchors are now widely regarded as the most reliable anchor of the market and are standard equipment on the RNLI’s Shannon Class Lifeboat, which each carry two.

SEAMEDIC

In 2003 Blue Water Supplies developed SeaMedic in conjunction with the then First Aid Pharmacist, Ian Hardy.  A modular medical kit developed for ocean going yachts, SeaMedic plugged a hole in the market.  Originally in clip together boxes, the Ocean Series was then developed in bags.  The kits can also be supplied in Pelican boxes.

CREWMEDIC

It was soon very apparent that the existing first aid kits on the marine leisure market were inadequate and confusing.  They had traditionally been based on RYA recommendations (Inshore, Coastal and Offshore).  Blue Water Supplies once again teamed up with Ian Hardy to Develop CrewMedic, a brand-new concept in marine first aid, based on the number of minutes from help.  Within six months CrewMedic had been adopted by the RYA for their own RIBs and they continue to use them to this day.

In 2012, following demand from French distributors Plastimo and Accastillage Diffusion, Blue Water Supplies approached the French Affaires Maritimes to try to change the French marine first aid legislation, which resulted in CrewMedic being approved to replace the obligatory kit.  In 2019 Julia produces a report for the Affaires Maritimes on marine first aid kits with proposals for the development of article 240 which regulates safety equipment on board French pleasure vessels.

JERSEY YACHT REGISTRATION

In 2004 Blue Water Supplies started its yacht registration and representation services.  It quickly developed a large portfolio of vessels it represents.  Over the years this included fleets such as Sunsail vessels and in 2007/8 Blue Water Supplies assisted with the Registration of IDEC, Francis Joyon’s catamaran which beat Ellen MacArthur’s record for a solo Circumnavigation.  In 2015 Blue Water Supplies handled the change of ownership and name of this historic vessel to Qingdao.

BLEU NAUTIQUE

In 2004 Julia Buesnel launched a business in France which went on to distribute SPADE Anchors for the whole of France.  It later became Bleu Nautique and was the French distributor for Ocean Safety, Nasa, Swi-Tec, Echomax and other brands.  Bleu Nautique was eventually sold to the manufacturers of SPADE in 2015.
